The influence of artificial intelligence on the modern world has been unreal, moreover, the healthcare industry in particular has been completely revolutionized by AI. For instance, NLP(Natural language processing) systems are extremely beneficial for the analysis of clinical notes. Resourceability and research assistance are only a few of the numerous benefits associated with AI in healthcare.

One specific piece of research conducted in Nagoya University exemplifies the use of AI in the medical field. On July 28, 2022, researchers created an AI algorithm to analyze lung disease. The algorithm’s ability to provide a diagnosis simply based on images and basic information is unlike anything medical care has seen before. Without it, regular procedure would involve checking for symptoms such as shortness of breath and cough. If a patient is not displaying these symptoms but still has lung disease, it would be hard to create an effective diagnosis.

Another great example of recent AI implementation in medicine is DeepMind(an artificial intelligence company)’s discovery of protein structures. The structures of over 200 million proteins were released using AlphaFold, a new AI program, which used the amino acid sequences of proteins to discover their structures. The company is now focusing on trying to cure all types of illnesses by altering these proteins. Although the development of proteins over time in depth is still unknown, over the next decade, more and more research should come to fruition and healthcare is sure to evolve for the better.

As the world continues to become more digital, AI is taking over the medical field. Its impact ranges from aiding doctors in multiple forms to making ground breaking discoveries in the biological sciences.
