For a mother after giving birth to her baby, plaster is applied over the cut, for it to heal. After the operation (cesarean section) dressing change is done. During the dressing change, dynaplast is applied to prevent bleeding, and this dynaplast should be changed after taking a bath.

A caesarian section is usually done in the lower section of the uterus, and this cesarean section is called the lower section caesarean section (LSCS).

Episiotomy, which is also known as perineotomy, is a surgical incision of the perineum and the posterior vaginal wall generally done by a midwife or obstetrician. The process of episiotomy is usually performed during the second stage of labor to quickly enlarge the opening for the baby to pass through. A mediolateral incision is done at an angle. A central incision is not done because the anus might be damaged. And, this is done, especially, for mothers giving delivery for the 1st time (or else some kind of tissue damage might happen). If you need an episiotomy, you typically won't feel the incision or the repair. If you haven't had anesthesia or if the anesthesia has worn off, you'll likely receive an injection of a local anesthetic to numb the tissue. Your health care provider will discuss different techniques for improving your comfort as you heal.

T

here are two types of episiotomy incisions:

  • Midline incision. A midline incision is done vertically. A midline incision is easier to repair. But it has a higher risk of extending into the anal area.

  • Mediolateral incision. A mediolateral incision is done at an angle. A mediolateral incision is less likely to result in an extended tear into the anal area. However, this incision is often more painful and more difficult to repair.

Episiotomy recovery is uncomfortable. Sometimes the incision is more extensive than a natural tear would have been. Infection is possible. For some, an episiotomy causes pain during sex in the months after delivery.

A midline episiotomy puts you at risk of fourth-degree vaginal tearing. This type of tearing extends through the anal sphincter and into the mucous membrane that lines the rectum. Fecal incontinence could result.

A classic process of cesarean section involves a vertical cut from the naval, but this process of cutting vertically is not practiced anymore, as the anus might get damaged. An injection is subcutaneously given to the mother after the birth of the baby.
