Coffee is the staple of mornings all across the world. An increasing number of people drink large portions of coffee daily and develop caffeine tolerance and addiction. Caffeine is considered one of, if not the most, widely abused drug in the world. While previously many urged people to reduce their consumption of coffee and caffeine, a new study shows that daily coffee intake is considered to be part of a healthy diet.

This study is primarily focused on the effects of coffee on cardiovascular health. Benefits were seen across people who drank instant, ground, and decaffeinated coffee. This study contains a total of nearly 500,000 participants in the United Kingdom. Each patient reported how much coffee they drink daily and their preferred type of coffee. Over 12 and 1/2 years of follow up it was shown that drinking 1 to 5 cups of coffee each day, as long as it was caffeinated, was linked to a significant reduction in heart conditions such as an irregular heartbeat. Those who regularly drink up to 5 cups per day also saw a significant reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those who didn’t drink coffee or drink decaffeinated coffee. Coffee also appears to be linked to a lower risk of heart disease, heart failure, and stroke.
This study is shocking as for a long time it was believed that caffeine, due to its nature as a stimulant, put unnecessary stress on the heart that could lead to cardiovascular disease and other disorders of the heart such as an irregular heartbeat. Researchers plan to look at why the effects of coffee could lead to the results of this experiment. Many scientists still disagree as to whether this experiment was valid or not as they continue to debate the prevalence of coffee in the average person's diet.
