When a doctor goes for rounds, they first take the room list, which contains the information regarding the patient (the medicines given, at which dose, medical history, diagnosis, treatment, etc.) and they introduce themselves to the patient. Following the introduction, they build a rapport with them, and, then, they ask about the issues the patient (the mother and the baby) has been facing; then, explain the plan of action for the treatment of the issue(s) to the patient.

There are various tests that are done for newborn babies, like jaundice, hypothyroidism, etc. Jaundice (for which investigation is done after 48 or 72 hours; thus test is done for babies of age 1 to 28 days; this illness is very common in children; if the baby has jaundice for 0 – 10 days, then the illness is not as a serious case; but if that is not the case, there are 2 types of treatment that are given – phototherapy (wavelength of blue light used) and exchange transfusion; the illness of jaundice is common because of blood incompatibility, like, like if the mother has a negative blood group type and the baby has a positive blood group type; certain symptoms include baby not feeding well).

NICE clinical guidelines are recommendations on how healthcare and other professionals should care for people with specific conditions. The recommendations are based on the best available evidence. Clinical guidelines are also important for health service managers and those who commission NHS services.

Our clinical guidelines can cover any aspect of a condition. This may include recommendations about:

  • providing information, education and advice (for example, about self-care)

  • prevention

  • treatment in primary care (GPs and other community services)

  • treatment in secondary care (provided by or in hospitals)

  • treatment in specialized services.

In many hospitals in India, UK (NICE) protocol is followed.
