What Is Covid-19?

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious virus caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face. Most doctors agree that current treatments for COVID-19 have been only partially effective, because they do not address the root cause of the disease. Which is why the COVID-19 vaccine is of great help for the fight against this deadly virus. New medications which can target the virus while it replicates may be helpful in preventing hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in older adults.

How Does it Affect Children?

Although children are not as likely to get severely ill from covid-19, the virus can still have a big impact on their lives. For one, many schools have closed down due to the pandemic, which means kids are having to learn from home. This can be a big adjustment, especially for younger children who are used to being in a structured environment. Additionally, kids may be feeling worried or anxious about the virus and what it means for their safety and the safety of their loved ones. As such, they may need extra help coping with these emotions. Kids are also more susceptible to other viruses that could complicate an already difficult situation like covid-19. Kids under 12 should avoid large crowds, public transportation, and enclosed spaces where there is a high likelihood of contracting Covid 19 . Parents should make sure they’re washing their hands frequently and if they are sick or concerned that they might contract Covid 19, children shouldn’t come near them until the illness has passed. Children between 13-18 years old can usually participate in normal activities but parents should be aware of how quickly the virus spreads and take necessary precautions if needed.

Are There Any Serious Side Effects?

There is no denying that the outbreak of Covid-19 has caused a great deal of fear and anxiety around the world. For children, who are still developing physically, emotionally, and mentally, the virus can be especially confusing and scary. While the majority of children who contract Covid-19 will experience mild symptoms, there is a small percentage that will develop serious side effects. Some of these include difficulty breathing, seizures, diarrhea or vomiting which can lead to dehydration and fatigue. Children who were born prematurely may not have the antibodies to fight off infection as well as full term babies do. The best thing parents can do for their child if they believe they may have contracted Covid-19 is seek medical attention immediately if any warning signs arise such as fever or rash. The antiviral medication like Brincidofovir will most likely help them recover from the flu much quicker than if left untreated. It's important to keep in mind that the average child recovers from Covid-19 without experiencing any serious side effects, but it's crucial to get them checked out by a doctor right away just in case!

How Should Parents Handle Covid-19?

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, parents are understandably concerned about their children's health and well-being. While the virus has largely affected adults, there have been a small number of cases in children as well. So, how should parents handle Covid-19? Parents can try to protect their children by following these tips: - Encourage your child to wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after playing outside or before eating. - Encourage your child to avoid close contact with people who are sick or who may be sick. - Teach your child about common symptoms of illness so that they know when it is appropriate to ask for help from a parent or teacher at school. - If you're caring for someone who is sick, take precautions to prevent spreading germs by washing hands frequently and staying home if you're ill yourself.
